چکیده

Conventional materials are reaching their limits in computation, sensing, and data storage capabilities, ushered by the end of Moore’s law, myriad sensing applications, continuing exponential rise worldwide demand. also limited controlled environments which they must operate, high energy consumption, capacity to perform simultaneous, integrated retrieval. In contrast, human brain is capable multimodal complex both short- long-term simultaneously, with near instantaneous rate recall, seamless integration, minimal consumption. Motivated need for revolutionary new computing materials, we recently proposed data-driven discovery framework, autonomous materials. This framework aims mimic brain’s capabilities programming excitonic, phononic, photonic, dynamic structural nanoscale without attempting unknown implementational details brain. If realized, such would offer transformative opportunities distributed, an manner biological other nonconventional environments, including interfacing sensors computers as itself.

Autonomous Computing Systems: A Proof-of-Concept

This paper describes a proof-of-concept implementation of a basic autonomous computing system. The system consists of an XUP Virtex-II Pro board running Linux and a set of software tools on one of the embedded PowerPC processors. A server application accepts mapped EDIF circuit descriptions, which it independently parses, packs, places, routes, configures, connects, and implements within itself...

A modular computing architecture for autonomous robots

This paper presents a modular computing architecture used for intelligent control of autonomous robots. The architecture takes the form of multiple sensing and control layers, based on Locally Intelligent Control Agents (LICAs) in which IBM PowerPC, SIEMENS 80C166, and INMOS Transputers are adopted. The control tasks are distributed among a set of the LICA-based behaviour experts that tightly c...
